(More customer reviews)The information contained in the book is limited to theory of modeling error detection and correction for digital communication channels. The theorectical models are based on statistical analysis using Markov Chains which appears to be Mr. Turin's expertise. I could not find any practical application of the material for my work which is designing regional fiber optic and wireless networks. "Telecommunication Transmission Systems" by Winch (also sold by Amazon)has the kind of information most telecommunication system engineers can use.
The author makes the subject matter even more obtuse than it needs to be by focusing on the mathematical derivation and proof of many of the formulas associated with the modeling of channels, rather than how it would be applied to an existing or proposed system.
Also the book does not have an accompanying CD as the stated in the write up, I have seen misinformation in other literature about this book as well. In fact the text in the book never refers to any being provided.

From cutting edge cellular and PCS networks to traditional radio and microwave communications, this book teaches methods for the quick, quantitative analysis of telecommunications transmission system performance. Though the analysis techniques presented involved complicated mathematical models, the AT&T software provided on the diskette allows engineers to get quickly up to speed.
