(More customer reviews)Ok, Microsoft Windows 2000 is slightly dated by now. But the explanation of networking concepts and administration of a subnet of Microsoft computers is still useful, for the most part. Early sections of the book describe in general terms how the Internet's TCP/IP works. So you learn about class A, B and C subnets. And about how to troubleshoot a TCP/IP network. Using ping and ipconfig. All this material remains true.
The bulk of the book has many screen captures of the windows you'd see while attempting various networking tasks. Some specific details might be different, if you are sitting on a more recent Microsoft operating system. But chances are that most of the narrative is accurate. This networking stuff has been pretty stable for several years.
The book also has a fairly lengthy problem set at the end of each chapter. Individual problems aren't that difficult. You should try to set aside some time and tackle as many of the problems as you can. Drives home the text's lessons.
